3Carpet colors for these walls

Light, neutral flooring colors can be used in almost any type of decor, but they pair perfectly with light tones on the walls for Scandinavian style and other minimalist designs. — Mohawk

The carpet colors are our own screen colors, not a carpet maker's shades: a screen is not a carpet. Mohawk's advice: ask for samples and look at them in your room at different times of day.

4Tap to paint

On a sample room the walls and the carpet are painted for you. On your own photo, tap every wall in your wall color, then pick a carpet and tap the carpet (try Textured below, and tap each part the furniture splits). If the color spills onto the next surface, lower Spread and tap it again.

Quick answer: pick a carpet that is clearly lighter or darker than the walls, at least 10 LRV points, and keep it in the walls’ undertone or a neutral. A darker carpet grounds light walls; a lighter neutral softens dark ones. Light Gray Walls take ivory, cream or light brown, or a sage or teal for a bold floor; Blue and Green walls take gray (it echoes them) or beige (it warms them); colorful walls look best over a neutral carpet. Pick your wall color above to see each carpet on a room.

How to use the carpet color tool

    1. Pick your wall color. Tap a swatch, type your paint’s code or name (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore or Behr, such as SW 7029 or Revere Pewter), or use the color picker. The sample room’s walls repaint at once.
    2. Tap a carpet color. Four to six carpets work with your walls, each with why in one line and Mohawk’s own words under the list. The floor of the sample room is recolored in it.
    3. Have the carpet already? Tap My carpet, pick its color, and the list turns into the wall colors that go with it.
    4. Try your own room. Upload a photo, tap the walls, then pick a carpet and tap the floor. Your photo never leaves your device.
    5. Read our post. Under the list are Dreamy’s posts on that wall color and that carpet, with photos of real rooms.

    The rules, in Mohawk’s words

Mohawk, the carpet maker, writes about carpet color and walls in two guides; every reason the tool gives is one of these. Shaw Floors’ site gives no advice on pairing carpet with wall colors, so it is not quoted.

What is ours, not Mohawk’s: the 10-point LRV step, keeping colorful walls (chroma 15 and up) over neutral carpets, which reason comes first for light, mid-tone and dark walls, and the carpet and wall colors themselves (our own screen colors, not any maker’s shades).

Carpet colors for every wall color

What the tool suggests for each of our wall colors, best first. Light walls lead with a light neutral or a striking dark carpet; mid-tone walls with a darker carpet; dark walls with a lighter one.

    Carpet color questions

What color carpet goes with gray walls?

For light gray walls, a light neutral (beige or light gray) keeps the room calm, greige or light brown grounds it, and a light blue or sage carpet is the bold choice: Mohawk notes blues and greens are trending. For mid gray walls, charcoal or dark brown grounds the room, and cream or light gray softens it.

Should carpet be lighter or darker than the walls?

Either, as long as there is a clear step. Deeper colors can ground a room and absorb light. (Mohawk, How to Choose the Right Carpet Color in 2025 (With Pro Tips)) and lighter carpet colors can soften a space and make it feel brighter. (Mohawk, How to Choose the Right Carpet Color in 2025 (With Pro Tips)) A darker carpet also hides more dirt.

What color carpet goes with beige walls?

A slightly lighter or darker neutral: ivory or the same beige for a calm room, greige or light brown to ground it. Beige walls are warm, so warm or neutral carpets keep the undertone.

What color carpet goes with green or blue walls?

Gray echoes them: Grays can be cool or warm and are often chosen to mirror a color scheme, like pairing cool gray carpet with a room of blues and greens. (Mohawk, How to Choose the Right Carpet Color in 2025 (With Pro Tips)) Beige warms them, and charcoal grounds them.

What wall color goes with gray carpet?

Tan or greige walls over a mid gray carpet, charcoal or black for a deep, moody room, and green or olive walls, since a gray carpet echoes them. Pick My carpet above to see them on a room.

What is the most versatile carpet color?

A light neutral: Light, neutral flooring colors can be used in almost any type of decor, but they pair perfectly with light tones on the walls for Scandinavian style and other minimalist designs. (Mohawk, Coordinating Decor Colors With Your Floors) Greige and taupe hide more dirt than ivory.

    Are these real carpet colors?

No. They are our own screen colors for each carpet color name, not any maker’s shade. A screen cannot show a carpet’s pile and sheen: bring a sample home and look at it at different times of day.

Can I try carpet colors on my own room?

Yes. Upload a photo, tap the walls in your wall color, then pick a carpet and tap the floor. Carpet is textured: if one tap does not cover it, set Textured and tap again. Your photo never leaves your device.
