    Quick answer: measure one cube’s opening inside, panel to panel. Bins are sold in five sizes: 10½″, 11″, 12″ and 13″ fabric cubes and the 13 × 15 × 13″ Kallax size. Buy the biggest whose front fits the opening: 11″ bins for an 11¼″ cube (ClosetMaid Cubeicals), 13″ bins for a 13″-system cube (Target Brightroom, CAPHAUS) and 13 × 15 × 13″ for an IKEA KALLAX.     How to use the cube bin size finder

    1. Pick your cube organizer from the list, if it is there. Its maker’s cube size (or the bin size it names) is already in.
    2. Or measure one cube: the width and the height inside the opening, from panel to panel, and the depth from the front edge to the back panel. Inches or cm both work.

    The cube sizes are the makers’ own, as their listings print them (Target prints only which bin system its organizers take, so the cube is “not printed”). Where only the whole unit’s depth is known, a bin deeper than the unit stands out at least that much. Not affiliated with any of these makers.

    How a bin fits a cube

    A bin fits when its front, width and height, is no bigger than the cube’s opening, and it sits flush when it is no deeper than the cube. The makers pair their own bins with 0 to ½″ to spare: IKEA’s 13″ DRÖNA box in the 13″ KALLAX cube, CAPHAUS’s 13″ bins in a 13.2″ cube, ClosetMaid’s 11″ drawers in its 11¼″ cube, PrimeZone’s 11″ bins in 11.22″, and Best Choice’s 10½″ baskets in an 11″ opening and 13″ ones in 13½″. So a bin with no room to spare still goes in, as long as it is fabric, which gives. A rigid box or a plastic bin needs a little room.

    A ClosetMaid Cubeicals. Each cube is 11¼ × 11¼ × 11¾″ inside, so 11″ bins fit with ¼″ to spare each way and sit ¾″ short of the back. 12″ bins are ¾″ too wide.

    A 13-inch cube organizer (CAPHAUS). 13.2″ cubes take 13″ bins with 0.2″ to spare. A 13 × 15 × 13″ Kallax bin fits the front, but its extra depth stands out 1.8″ at the front.

    A cube you measured: 13¼ × 13¼″, 14″ deep. 13″ bins, with ¼″ to spare each way and 1″ short of the back. Kallax bins would stand out 1″.

    Common cube bin mistakes

    • Buying by the name. Many “11-inch” bins are 10½″ wide and 11″ tall. Read the listing’s three numbers.
    • Measuring the outside. The unit’s outside size includes the panels. Measure inside one cube, panel to panel.
    • Kallax bins in a 13-inch system. The fronts match, but a Kallax bin is 15″ deep and stands out of a 13″-deep cube.
    • A rigid box with no room to spare. Fabric squeezes into an exact fit; a plastic bin or a box with stiff sides needs room.
    • Forgetting the back panel. A back panel takes some depth; a cube with an open back (a KALLAX) lets a deep bin sit flush.
