I remember when I first moved into my new apartment last year – the walls were a cool gray and most of the furniture was black.

But the place felt cold and lifeless.

Then it hit me – I needed some colorful curtains to warm things up!

Red, yellow and blue curtains really made the space feel more inviting.

Now I’m here to share with you what curtain colors will make your gray and black pad feel cheerful and homey:

Red Curtains

A bright cherry red really pops against gray walls.

Maybe consider a wine colored red curtain, it’s deeper hue is still bold but not too in-your-face.

Curtains the color of your favorite pinot noir would add a sophisticated touch.

burgundy, maroon and crimson are also nice earthy variations on the red theme.

If your furniture has black leather you’ll want a brighter red to stand out, like a fire-engine or tomato red.

For black wood think about a more toned down red, like raspberry or ruby.

I scored some cotton red curtains from Target in every shade imaginable, from candy apple to hot rod.

Throwing one set in each window really energizes the room without committing to a specific red hue.

Velvet or corduroy curtains with a red print pattern could add visual interest too.

Don’t forget about white curtains splattered or spotted with red, that’s a cool modern look.

You could try red sheers under regular curtains layered for an extra pop of color.

No matter the specific red tone I promise it’ll make your pad feel cheerier than gray alone ever could.

Yellow Curtains

A bright canary yellow is as happy as it gets.

For something slightly muted, look for curtains the color of a lemon tart.

Mustard yellow has an earthy warmth perfect for fall and winter.

Vintage floral curtains in shades of daffodil would have gorgeous vintage flair.

Gingham yellow curtains in checks the size of saltine crackers add fun retro appeal.

White curtains featuring a polka dot or pinstripe in sunshine yellow lifts spirits for sure.

I happened upon yellow lace panels that let soft light filter through all cheery-like.

Pairing yellow with gray is just as classic as vanilla ice cream with hot fudge.

Yellow tea-dyed curtains make a fun, funky statement too.

Cotton candy or banana yellow curtains could put a smile on anyone’s face, I’d bet.

No one could possibly feel glum with curtains as sunny as marigolds surrounding the windows.

Blue Curtains

Navy blue feels ruggedly handsome like a marine’s uniform.

Lighter shades of denim or sky blue lend an airy breeziness.

Baby blue would make the space soothing as a nursery.

Cobalt curtains add a stylish pop without overwhelming gray walls.

I dream of turquoise curtains straight out of a Greek island paradise.

Indigo curtains have a bohemian richness perfect for eclectic souls.

Patterned curtains in tones of robin’s egg and ocean spray fill the room with lush layering.

Pair blue velvet curtains with black furniture for drama after dark.

Cerulean sheers under navy panels lets lots of light shine through in calming colors.

Periwinkle brings a serene mood whether it’s day or night, that’s for sure.

With so many blue shades to pick from you can’t go wrong – it’s a classic choice if there ever was one!
