Pick the appliance and measure the cutout in your cabinet. You see which wall ovens and microwave drawers go in by each maker's own sheet, where one is too tight or leaves a gap, and the cutout they all take.
Your cabinet cutout
Your 28½″ × 27¼″ cutout takes all 4 of the 30″ single wall ovens readGE, KitchenAid, Bosch and Samsung · a cutout all 4 take: 28½–28⅝″ wide, 27¼–27 5⁄16″ high, 24″ deep
Quick answer: a 30″ single wall oven goes in a cutout about 28½″ wide, 27¼″ high and 23½–24″ deep; a 27″ one about 25″ wide; a 24″ one about 22–22⅝″ wide. The makers’ heights differ: GE’s 30″ asks 27¼–27 5⁄16″, Bosch’s 27–28⅝″, KitchenAid’s 27¼–29 7⁄16″. A 24″ microwave drawer takes a cutout 22⅛″ wide and 14 13⁄16–15 9⁄16″ high.
How to use the wall oven cutout finder
- Pick the appliance: a 24″, 27″ or 30″ single wall oven, a 27″ or 30″ double, or a 24″ or 30″ microwave drawer.
- Measure the cutout in the cabinet, not the old appliance: its width inside edge to inside edge, its height from the cutout’s floor to its top, and, if you can, its depth to the back.
- You get which models read go in by their makers’ own sheets, where one is too tight or leaves a gap at its trim, the one cutout every model takes when there is one, and the cutout drawn to scale.
The rule behind the numbers
A wall oven slides into a hole in the cabinet and its trim covers the edges: GE’s 30″ ovens overlap the cutout by 1″ at the top and 1¼″ at the bottom. So every maker prints the cutout as a least and, for many, a most. Narrower, shorter or shallower than the least and the oven does not go in; wider or taller than the most and the trim no longer covers the edge.
The makers do not agree, which is what matters when you replace one oven with another. GE’s 30″ single asks a cutout 27¼–27 5⁄16″ high — a sixteenth of an inch of play — where KitchenAid recommends 28″ and takes 27¼–29 7⁄16″. At 24″ there is no cutout both Whirlpool (at least 22⅝″ wide) and Frigidaire (22–22½″) take.

| 30″ microwave drawer | Bosch HMD8053UC | 28¼″+ | 14 13⁄16″+ | 23½″+ |
“+” means at least; a dash means no depth in the sheet read. Each row is the maker’s own sheet: GE’s dimensions and installation information, KitchenAid’s and Whirlpool’s dimension guides, Bosch’s, Samsung’s, Frigidaire’s and Sharp’s specification sheets; a single number printed is read as a least.
Five worked examples
A 30″ single oven cutout, 28½″ × 27¼″. It takes all four 30″ single ovens read: GE, KitchenAid, Bosch and Samsung.
The same cutout made 28″ high, as KitchenAid recommends. KitchenAid, Bosch and Samsung go in; GE’s trim leaves 11⁄16″ uncovered over its 27 5⁄16″ top.
A 27″ cutout 25½″ wide, cut for another make. Both 27″ singles read stop at 25¼″: GE and Frigidaire leave a ¼″ gap at the trim.
A 24″ cutout, 22½″ × 28¼″. Frigidaire’s goes in; Whirlpool’s asks at least 22⅝″ wide — and no 24″ cutout takes both.
A 30″ microwave drawer in a 22⅛″ cutout. Sharp’s 30″ drawer takes the same standard cutout as its 24″; Bosch’s 30″ asks 28¼″ wide.
Common mistakes
- Measuring the old oven, not the hole. An oven’s face is wider and taller than its cutout: GE’s 30″ single is 29¾″ wide in a 28½–28⅝″ cutout.
- Assuming every 30″ oven fits every 30″ cutout. The heights differ by maker: a GE cutout, 27¼–27 5⁄16″ high, takes a KitchenAid or a Bosch too, but a cutout made at KitchenAid’s recommended 28″ is too tall for a GE.
- Measuring once. Cabinets are rarely square: measure the width at the top and the bottom and the height at both sides, and use the smallest.
- Forgetting the floor of the cutout. GE asks the runners under its 30″ double to hold up to 400 lbs.

What are the dimensions of a 27 inch wall oven?
About 26¾–27″ wide. Its cutout: GE’s JKS5000SNSS asks 25–25¼″ wide and 27⅝–28⅛″ high; Frigidaire’s FCWS2727AS 24⅞–25¼″ wide and 27¼–28¼″ high.
What are the dimensions of a double wall oven?
A 30″ double’s cutout is 28½″ wide: GE’s JTD5000SNSS asks at least 50¼″ high, Bosch’s HBL8651UC 49¾–51½″. A 27″ double’s: GE 25–25¼″ wide and 49 11⁄16–50⅛″ high, Frigidaire 24⅞–25¼″ and 48⅞–50¼″.

Will a new wall oven fit my old cutout?
Only if the cutout is inside the new model’s range on every side. Measure the hole and check it here: a 28″ high 30″ cutout takes a KitchenAid, a Bosch or a Samsung, and is too tall for GE’s 27¼–27 5⁄16″.
