3Trex deck colors for your house
Trex Transcend Havana Gold decking on a tan house: an LRV gap of 22 with the siding (stands out in daylight) and 75 with the trim (stands out in any light).
Your siding reads warm. Trex: Brown decking is neutral, making it a safe choice for nearly all colours
, and warmer colours (orange, red, yellow) have distinct undertones from cooler colours like green and blue.
Your siding reads cool. Trex: Blue, red, or grey exterior tends to complement grey decking
, and Brown decking is neutral, making it a safe choice for nearly all colours
.
A white house. Trex: A white home will match with decking of nearly any colour scheme
.
Gap = the difference in LRV (how much light a color reflects, 0 black to 100 white): over 30 the deck stands out from the walls in any light, 20 to 30 in daylight, under 20 it blends in. The colors are read off Trex’s own sample photos; a real board has several tones and a grain, so order a sample. Trex: Samples are the most reliable way to ensure you know precisely what a colour really looks like.

5Tap the deck
On a sample the deck boards, the steps and the rim boards are laid in the color for you; the thin stair rails take the Brush. On your own photo, tap the deck floor, then each step and board that is not done yet. Color on the grass or the house? Move Spread left, or wipe it with Erase.
Quick answer: Trex’s own rule of thumb is short. A white home will match with decking of nearly any colour scheme
, a Blue, red, or grey exterior tends to complement grey decking
, and Brown decking is neutral, making it a safe choice for nearly all colours
. For a brick house Trex’s design team picks Lava Rock or Carmel, for stone Tiki Torch or Jasper, for stucco Rainier or Spiced Rum. Pick your siding above to see every Trex color on a deck beside a house like yours.
How to use the composite decking color picker
- Pick your siding color. Tap a chip, type its color code, or tap Read it off my photo and then your siding.
- Say what the house is. Siding, brick, stone, stucco or cedar shakes: Trex’s design team picks two boards for each, and they come first.
- Read the deck colors. After Trex’s picks come the color families that suit your siding by Trex’s rule, each with its LRV and its gap from the siding and from the trim.
- Tap a color and the sample deck, its steps and its rim boards are laid in it, or pick any of the 27 Trex colors on the board below.
- Try your own deck. Use your photo, pick a color and tap the deck floor, then each step. Thin rails are easier with the Brush.
Trex’s picks for your house
In Trex Go-Togethers, Trex’s design team chose two of its colors for each kind of house. The picker offers them first when you say what your house is made of.
| The house is | Trex’s picks | What Trex says |
|---|---|---|
| Brick | Transcend Lava Rock, Transcend Lineage Carmel | Try pairing this darker shade with a lighter brick for a contrasting dual-tone look to your outdoor space.(Lava Rock) This timeless, creamy taupe goes hand-in-hand with classic brick.(Carmel) |
| Stone | Transcend Tiki Torch, Transcend Lineage Jasper | The nutmeg and ginger tones of Tiki Torch complement the warmer streaks found in some types of stone.Jasper is accenting bluish slates and sandy ivories. |
| Stucco | Transcend Lineage Rainier, Transcend Spiced Rum | Rainier: Featuring a pristine, stony grey, this shade keeps the palette airy, elevated, and chic.Spiced Rum is contrasting your stucco’s natural tone. |
| Tan vinyl siding | Enhance Rocky Harbor, Transcend Havana Gold | For horizontal vinyl panels in a classic tan. The picker offers these two only when your siding reads warm. |
| Cedar shakes | Select Pebble Grey | The matte oomph of Pebble Grey grounds shakes in a deep sea of modern grey. Trex’s other pick, Rope Swing, is no longer in its lines. |
Warm or cool: Trex’s rule for the rest
Trex groups its colors into families; every board on its site is filed as Brown, Grey or Red. Its colour guide gives the pairings: A white home will match with decking of nearly any colour scheme
, Blue, red, or grey exterior tends to complement grey decking
and Brown decking is neutral, making it a safe choice for nearly all colours
. It adds that warmer colours (orange, red, yellow) have distinct undertones from cooler colours like green and blue
, and Even neutrals, like grey, usually have a warmer or cooler undertone that will either complement or clash with its environment.
So the picker lists the browns first for every house, the grays too for a cool or white one, and the reds for a white one. It reads your siding the way its gutter and roof pickers do: no clear hue and an LRV of 75 or more is white; otherwise its hue says warm (beige, tan, cream, brick) or cool (gray, sage, blue). Light, mid and dark inside a family are the picker’s own bands, by LRV.
Every Trex deck color, with its screen color
All 27 colors in Trex’s four current lines, as Trex files them. The screen color is the average of the middle of the board’s top face in Trex’s own sample photo, so it is close to a board seen from a few steps away, not a chip: real boards have several tones and a grain. LRV is worked out from that screen color.

Three worked examples
A tan house with vinyl siding. Trex’s two picks are Havana Gold, 22 LRV points darker than the siding (it shows in daylight), and Rocky Harbor, 7 points away, which blends with the walls. Every brown fits a tan house by Trex’s rule; Spiced Rum, 33 points off, is the strongest contrast.
A red brick house. Lava Rock is 4 points from red brick and blends with it; Carmel is 28 points lighter, the soft board Trex says lets the brick shine. For a lighter brick, Trex suggests the darker Lava Rock for contrast.
A white house. Trex says nearly any color works. Foggy Wharf is 35 points from white siding, Havana Gold 69 and Spiced Rum 80: the darker the board, the more the deck reads as a floor in front of the house.
Common mistakes when choosing a deck color
- Matching the house exactly. Trex:
Avoiding an exact colour match will prevent your exterior from ending up monotone and visually boring.
- A dark board in full sun.
White composite decking will heat slower than black composite decking.
Trex: with full sun all day,you might be better off selecting a lighter colouration, especially if you anticipate bare feet on your deck.
- Choosing from a screen.
The colours you view on a digital display are rarely true-to-life.
Order samples and, as the designer Carmen Johnston says on Trex’s site,Hold them up outside near your exterior materials
in the morning, at midday and around sunset. - Forgetting the surroundings. Trex:
if you’re in a densely wooded area surrounded with lush greenery, you may want to consider colours that will complement green.
- Forgetting the railing. Trex’s color-family page pairs railings too: for brown decks
White for classic, black for modern, bronze for a seamless blend
; for gray decks,Black railing enhances sleekness; white adds contrast
. Set the trim and railing color above to see both gaps.

Composite deck color questions
What Trex color goes with my house?
Trex’s design team picks Lava Rock or Carmel for brick, Tiki Torch or Jasper for stone, Rainier or Spiced Rum for stucco, Rocky Harbor or Havana Gold for tan vinyl siding and Pebble Grey for cedar shakes. Beyond those, Trex says brown decking suits nearly any house, gray suits a blue, red or gray one, and a white house takes nearly any color. Pick your siding above to see them on a deck.
What colors does Trex decking come in?
27 colors across four lines today: Enhance (10), Select (5), Transcend (5) and Transcend Lineage (7). Trex files each one as Brown, Grey or Red; the full list with a screen color for each is in the chart above.
What are the most popular Trex deck colors?
Trex names three colors leading the way in 2026
: Hatteras (Transcend Lineage), Malted Barley (Select) and Cinnamon Cove (Enhance). Trex’s designer guest on its site adds that Neutral tones like grays and browns are always a safe and popular choice
.
Is a light or dark composite deck better?
Carmen Johnston, on Trex’s site: Dark colors can create a cozy and intimate feel, while light colors can make a small space feel larger and more open.
In full sun a lighter board stays cooler underfoot, Trex says; she adds that dark colors hide dirt and stains better but can show scratches and scuffs more easily.
Does gray composite decking go with a tan house?
Trex’s own pick for a tan vinyl house is a gray, Enhance Rocky Harbor, together with the brown Transcend Havana Gold. Its rule pairs gray decking mostly with blue, red or gray houses, so on a tan house the picker lists the browns first and the grays after them.
What is the difference between Trex Enhance, Select and Transcend?
They are Trex’s lines at different price levels, and each comes in its own set of colors: Enhance has the most (10), Select 5, Transcend 5 and Transcend Lineage 7. Trex says each color family spans across Trex decking lines
, so a brown or a gray can be found at every level. This picker is about color; check each line’s warranty and price with Trex or a dealer.
Is there a Trex color chart?
The chart above lists every current Trex deck color by line and family, with a screen color read off Trex’s own sample photo. A screen is never exact, so Trex sells samples of each color; hold one against your siding before you order.
Can I see Trex colors on my own deck?
Yes. Upload a photo of your deck, pick a color and tap the deck floor and each step. Your photo never leaves your device: the coloring happens in your browser.
